GROWING OUR ECONOMY

Years of hard work by many community stakeholders and state leaders, and a foundation of well-trained labor brought Braidy Industries to our region. The growth of public institutions like ACTC out on the Industrial Parkway, and a core of highly skilled workers were a big part of making this possible. We must remember: there is no silver bullet.  Diversifying the economy of Eastern Kentucky is incredibly important to creating new and better jobs.  I believe that starts with supporting our small businesses here, and making a serious effort to help them compete with the big...

DEFEATING DRUGS

Our approach to the addiction problem in our region isn’t working. Prison and Narcan are absolutely not long-term solutions.  We have to do a better job of educating children about the dangers of this problem from a young age.  The DARE programs are great, and we need more of that kind of education.  I am working on a strategy that will help introduce more comprehensive curriculum into our classrooms addressing drug abuse and ways to help parents continue that conversation at home. Judge declares Kentucky's pension overhaul bill unconstitutional

This is a great win for educators, firefighters, police officers, public employees, and the people of Kentucky. We must remain vigilant to prevent policies that undermine our great Commonwealth.

Franklin Circuit Judge Phillip Shepherd has declared Kentucky's new public pension law unconstitutional, saying the General Assembly failed to properly enact the bill.
