Our approach to the addiction problem in our region isn’t working.

Prison and Narcan are absolutely not long-term solutions.  We have to do a better job of educating children about the dangers of this problem from a young age.  The DARE programs are great, and we need more of that kind of education.  I am working on a strategy that will help introduce more comprehensive curriculum into our classrooms addressing drug abuse and ways to help parents continue that conversation at home.

This issue is so pervasive.  We can’t really talk about any other without addressing it.  Pensions, for example.  With so many grandparents raising their grandchildren due to Mom or Dad’s struggle with addiction, how can we afford not to honor our commitment to those pensions?
